The AdRok Formula

Tachyon Aerospace has developed a plaster additive AdRok that changes the properties of standard Gypsum and delivers a new product that we believe will revolutionize the building industry as we know it today.

Gypsum is a rock-like mineral commonly found in the earth’s crust, extracted, processed and used by man in construction or decoration in the form of plaster since 9000 B.C. Whilst over time the range of construction—related uses have continued to multiply, the Gypsum or calcium sulphate dihydrate, has remained unchanged and has not been improved upon—until now.

AdRok is a gypsum-based hybrid additive formula that has been designed to meet multiple needs of the construction industry, architects, and civil engineers alike.

AdRok is a low-cost, fast-setting gypsum additive that displays properties of concrete, natural stone and gypsum alike that offers a wide range of fast setting, plaster based products for use in the construction industry.

Standard Gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O) is a mineral that has already found many uses in the construction industry, from use as a retarding additive in cement to being the main compound used in industrial building plasters and wallboards (plasterboard). With the addition of the AdRok formula, the processed Gypsum undergoes major changes at the molecular level, changing the way it bonds with water molecules to enhance its properties further. We are keen to point out that this is a non‐toxic product that is safe to work with in all environments.

Manufacturing AdRok

The base elements are mixed and dissolved into a heated solution, this chemical reaction changes the existing chemical compound into a new substance. Using a process called recrystallization the solution of compounds is then dissolved and cooled. Resonant frequencies are applied during this process by Tachyon Aerospace’s proprietary Phase Change Crystallizer, which manipulates the molecules during the crystallization and incubation period, resulting in the formation of the AdRok crystals. The crystals are further processed, ground and mixed into a Ph neutral mineral to complete the AdRok Formula. The formula remains inactive until the Activator solution is added to the mix of Gypsum and AdRok. Once the Activator is added—typical setting time of the gypsum element reduces from the manufacturers recommended 60–70 minutes to around 5 minutes. The AdRok formula creates an exothermic chemical reaction with the Gypsum or calcium sulfate dehydrate (CaSO.4···· 2H2O) changing the crystalline structure at a molecular level. The monoclinic lattice layers further change form and new bonds are created within the gypsum, AdRok formula and additional bulking agents such as sand, fly ash or aggregates.

Basic Mixing Ratios:

1 Tablespoon of AdRok, 1 25kg Bag of Alpha Gypsum, 5 25kg bags of sand or fly ash, approx. 35kg of water (dependent on types of gypsum/sand)

Total kg: 185kg
2kg of AdRok = 130 Tablespoons
1 Tablespoon creates 1 mix, so 2kg offers 130 mixes when used to the ratios show above.

The example below is based on brick manufacturing.

Whilst bricks can easily be manufactured, these are generally basic, low-end products. The AdRok formula can produce high-end finishes to mimic marble, sandstone, and raku glazes. Using the same formula to produce marble fire places, statues, or high-end cut stone pillars carries much higher retail values and makes the products value exponentially higher.

Cost Savings and Comparisons:

  • Normal brick manufacturing requires additional cost of building and firing a kiln.
  • The AdRok bricks are safe, non-toxic, and require no fossil fuels in the process.
  • Production time reduces from 3–4 days (traditional bricks) to 4–6 minutes de‐molding time with AdRok, and after a further 10 minutes the bricks are set “build-ready”—allowing for brick production on-site.
  • Additional aggregates such as rubble, stone chippings or waste/manufacturing bi‐products can be added to reduce the required volume of the formula and gypsum.
  • The formula can be “foamed” to make aerated blocks similar to aerated cinder blocks, further reducing the quantity of materials needed.
  • Due to the high compressive strength of the finished product, polystyrene or cardboard filler sections can also be added to reduce the required volumes of product.
  • Using AdRok to manufacture bricks, using a production line could realistically output up to 10–20 bricks per second, per production line, incrementally.

We believe AdRok will prove to be virtually indispensable for both the structural development and the exterior and interiors of homes and offices, indeed all types of building such as schools, shops, airports, etc. It offers superior performance in providing a solution that is fast drying, fire resistant, offers thermal and sound in insulation, heralds an ever‐greater role for it in buildings of the future. In fact, many of the attractive features of modern interiors will be more achievable and lower cost due to the versatility of AdRok as a building material.

The AdRok can be used to create many of the elements used in constructions industry today. The set time for any application can be rapidly increased when compared to concrete, from a time frame that can be pre-determined from 3 minutes up to 2 days. The MPA is upward of 38–43 mpa. and AdRok sets much faster and stronger than concrete.

It can be moulded in simple silicon/ polyurethane moulds which gives an excellent possibility for reproduction of just about any building material including most stone types, bricks, cinder block, wood paneling, roof tiles, logs for log home, rock fountains, etc. and by making a mould of any item you wish to duplicate, then simply pouring the AdRok plaster into the moulds, this gives you the ability to reproduce not only the original shape and form and textures of the original building material but also the colors to an extremely high standard.

Not only is the final product waterproof, unlike untreated Gypsum, it can also be mixed with salt water, dirty water, brackish water and can also set fully underwater.

To further enhance the cost savings presented by AdRok, it can be mixed with almost any bulk material from desert sand to all types of aggregates (example and size of aggregates: sand to big rocks/broken bricks, etc.) This would of course depend on the size of the product you wanted to produce and the size of the mould you use, and if the product was weight critical, the AdRok can be mixed with anything you wish. Our research shows the only additive to avoid would be red building sand and oxide based materials.

AdRok can be mixed with various types of gypsum and when mixed with mica, granite or marble chips or any other inert bulking agent, you mix the formula with a lot more water than you would typically mix with standard gypsum. This makes the final AdRok products very cost effective.

Making bricks and building blocks or any other building material from desert sand and sea water is not a problem as salt has no detrimental effect on the mix, in fact it makes it harder and remains a fast setting product ready to build within 10 minutes, giving it the ability to be molded onsite.

A color pigment (non‐oxide based colors) can be added at the mixing stage giving the finish a true color so if the product should ever get damaged it is not as noticeable. If there was any damage, or dents that needed to be repaired, the AdRok face material does not need to be treated before doing any repairs you just apply some color matched AdRok to the hole or crack, then sand and polish if a polished finish is required. We have the capability to add any color to the material, and because it is injected at the molecular level, it becomes a true “Through‐Color” and does not lose any of its colors over time being exposed to UV light from the sun.

Bristol University (BRE: http://www.bre.co.uk/) tests indicated that the AdRok, then called DuRok material, had passed the British standards 10 times the accepted level, and they thought it was a very stable compound and were very impressed with its performance.

There is no need to fire the bricks in a kiln as the AdRok formula sets exothermically due to the chemical reaction.

Due to the natural composition of AdRok, it offers a high‐quality solution to prevent the spread of fire in buildings and effectively protect the householder from a fire. It is also possible to create monolithic buildings that incorporate cooking areas and fireplaces due to the AdRok’s exceptionally high 2000+ C° resistance to fire and heat.

A variation of the AdRok can be formulated to have the correct density to block sound. Throughout the set dry material, there are millions of tiny air cavities, which interrupt the flow of sound. All building types need the acoustic performance of their internal spaces to be carefully considered. Unwanted noise from outside the building, from adjacent buildings and other internal spaces, can have a detrimental effect on the quality of the internal environment. AdRok has a beneficial impact on noise reduction as it can be formulated to produce a special acoustic grade material that offers greater sound attenuation and can be applied where a particularly high performance is required.

AdRok automatically balances humidity and heat peaks and is capable of storing humidity when a room is humid and automatically releasing this humidity if the indoor air becomes too dry. The AdRok can be formulated to offer “heat storing” abilities so that small temperature increases are absorbed and radiated back later when the temperature in the room decreases. It remains stable from ‐50 to +2000 C°. The insulation properties of the AdRok material can eliminate/reduce the need for various forms of insulation.

Alternatively, the formula can be activated to remain cooler than the surrounding environment – This unique ability has been used to increase the performance of low‐cost solar panels and create the coolant elements of our proprietary HVAC system.

A richness of forms can be created using the AdRok, for architects, building with AdRok products allows them to unleash their creativity thus allowing them to answer, even more effectively, the demands of their customer while remaining within an affordable budget. In short, AdRok allows the creation of stunning interiors in any styles, from the Classical to the Modern. The formula can be colored with pigments to imitate all popular building products, such as Sand Stone, Concretes, Terracotta, ceramics and can even be Raku Glazed.

AdRok is the perfect solution for building fountains and imitation rock sculptures in the back yard. With the qualities of being much stronger than concrete, but much lighter, water proof, and fire proof.

When joining two pieces of AdRok together, the formula created a bond that is as strong as a single piece as if there were not join present. The AdRok plaster can also be used for concrete repairs and tests were carried out with the AdRok to glue back together a broken concrete beam. It was noted that when the beam had been repaired and was subject to extreme shock and stress just 15 minutes after the repair, it fractured in different places than where the repair was, while the AdRok joint held fast.

Due to the nature of the AdRok, it would be possible to set up production “on the back of a lorry” with a simple standard concrete mixer and sets of silicon moulds so the blocks for internal wall and external bricks can be manufactured on site as required. This capability provides the opportunity to produce AdRok needed materials, in rural locations. The procedure is relatively simple and does not require the usually expensive capital costs and infrastructure demanded from say a concrete or brick factory etc.

AdRok materials make your home or building fireproof and eliminate the need for insulation. The AdRok material is approximately two times harder than standard pour concrete and offers a lower cost of the finished blocks both internal and external, plus the time saved during production. It is fire proof, highly insulated, has great acoustic attenuation properties and the ability to clone or copy existing materials.
